A Tip Guide For Sin City

It can be difficult to navigate the waters of who gets what and how much when it comes to tipping, especially in a city where money flows from one hand to the other like water.

From the second you hail a taxicab or have a prescheduled limousine picking you up at the airport to the time you depart from your hotel room, leaving an unintended disaster for the maid, this is what you need to know for tipping.

**Note: Put your tipping money aside or in a separate pocket and don’t gamble it away, you’ll thank us and so will those who assist you.

The general rule for a Taxi Driver is about 15 percent for a standard ride, and one or two dollars if it’s a short, direct commute. If your service is fantastic and the driver takes extra caution not to give you a heart attack during your ride, 20 percent is a great tip. A Limo Driver should probably receive a starting tip of 20 percent, definitely a five spot for short rides.

It’s been rumored that $20 or more can at times get you an upgrade on your hotel room when checking in with the Front Desk Attendant, however, this doesn’t always work and if you’re rude, paying your way into a better room will definitely not work. It’s best to just book the upgrade at the time of purchase.

With Concierge Services and the Bellman, you’ll want to offer an initial $1 to $5 depending on how much and how heavy your luggage is.

On the casino floor, you’re not expected to tip the Dealers, but throwing them a chip here and there isn’t a bad strategy either. If you win a jackpot on the slot machines it’s common to throw 10 percent of winnings to the Slot Attendant who delivered your money.

Cocktail Waitresses and Bartenders should receive $1 a drink if you’re solo, or, if you want to gamble on more frequent trips your way, try dropping a $5 or $10 spot – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The ladies with the cigarette and cigar boxes should get $1 on each overpriced pack of cigarettes you buy.

Wait Staff for meals should receive the standard 15 to 20 percent based on your service.

Are you headed to the spa? Make sure you tip approximately 20 percent on services rendered especially if it’s a quality visit, it keeps the Masseuse or Hairstylist happy, plus it’s expected.

For a night out on the town, if you book it the right way, you won’t have to tip your Host, but if you don’t do an all-inclusive experience, your tip can get as high as a several hundred dollars. A solid 10 percent is the least amount expected.

Don’t forget the Ladies and Gentleman at the Strip Clubs. While a song will cost you a standard $20, you’ll usually be tipping on top of that as well. However, that is up to you and how much you’re enjoying your time.

Street Performers posing for pictures with you should get at least $5 right off the bat.

Believe it or not but, yes, your Skydive Instructors also get tips. They did after all, ensure you didn’t die and carried your body to safety.

If the Cleaning Staff (i.e. Maid) for your room was decent, you should tip $1 a night. If, however, you left a massive mess, throw down a few more dollars. Oh, and don’t forget the Room Service Attendant, they should get the standard tip for a meal at 15 to 20 percent, although, you might find that they already added it to your bill. So, make sure you don't double tip, unless of course, you feel it is deserved.
