Chowhound: Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio Las Vegas

Before I talk about the food at Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio, I'd like to give the ultimate Vegas Strip pro tip: Make sure you reserve a table outside at or after dusk. Sitting outside at Bellagio with the fountain show is wonderful, especially if you’re with someone you love. The patio of Prime sits on the edge of the Lake Bellagio and is quite possibly the most perfect atmosphere for dinner. One thing to note however, the fountain show happens every 15 minutes so expect a small disturbance (if you want to call it that) during dinner.

Prime Steakhouse features the food of award-winning, four-star celebrity chef and restaurateur, Jean-Georges Vongerichten. If you sit inside, you'll notice traditional, yet modern chocolate brown and delicate Tiffany blue décor along with pieces of artwork that are on display including three commissioned paintings by Carlo Maria Mariani, George Deem and Michael Gregory, as well as a water-themed canvas screen created by Joseph Raffael.

Since opening in 1998, the luxury feel is still intact at Prime Steakhouse. Beyond the great design and setting of Prime, there is also food to consider. Everything I had at Prime was excellent and priced appropriately for a Five Diamond Award winning restaurant. While my focus is steak when I'm at a steakhouse, I'm told just about everything on the menu is excellent.

The last time I was at Prime, I figured with some casino winnings, I'd treat myself to an off the menu treat. The Kobe Beef Strip was only six ounces and cost $150 but it was cooked perfectly and was so gentle on my mouth that I felt very happy bypassing any appetizers. Singularly this has been the best piece of steak I’ve ever had. However, it was only six ounces of steak so there was room for sides and the mac and cheese and onion rings were a nice complement to the steak. I've also enjoyed the Filet Mignon on a separate occasion and it was also excellent and perfectly prepared.
