Chowhound: Strip House at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas
My adventures into steak began with old school, traditional steakhouses. I was used to men serving me steak that look like they just came back from the farm and I wanted an atmosphere that matched. Nothing too fancy, just a nice clean place with great steak. Strip House in New York was one of the first "modern" steakhouses I visited and opened me up to a new style of steakhouse. It was also one of my favorite steakhouses while living back east so I've wanted to try the Las Vegas location at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas since it opened a few years back.
Unbeknownst to me previously, Strip House is known for its modern twist on a roarin' ‘20s vibe within its decor. One of the subtle, yet recognizable features is the artwork of naked women on the walls. From the "sultry and sexy" decor to menu, everything at Strip House was a little different from every steakhouse I had been to before.
The first thing I noticed when I walked into Strip House at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas is that the restaurant was not overly busy at 7 pm on a weekend. This caught me off guard as I was expecting a packed house, great ambiance and to be transported to the Strip House I became accustom to. Quite frankly, those passing on Strip House are missing a quality dining experience in Las Vegas.
On to dinner, I took the waitresses recommendation on a bottle of wine, and while it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, it opened up and paired well with this meal. This was a moment I had wished the steakhouse employed a sommelier or that I myself was more familiar with the wine list. As for the food, I always order the same steak when visiting a steakhouse for the first time and my New York Strip was a little undercooked from the medium I asked for but I'd rather it be undercooked than overcooked. And actually, this night I realized that I prefer my steak medium rare and not medium. A tip of the hat to the grill master for making me realize my new found liking for steak medium-rare. While a little more pink then I'm used to, this was a flavorful and perfectly prepared steak. My Caesar salad and side of whipped potato puree were also very good.
All around, the night at Strip House wasn't perfect but the food shined and was almost as good as I remember from the New York location. For that, I was happy. Strip House may not be at the top of my favorite steaks in Las Vegas, but it's pretty high on the list. I won't hesitate making a return trip to Strip House at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas.
