Chowhound: The Barrymore at Royal Resort Las Vegas

Eating like it’s 1968 doesn’t mean stroganoff and tuna casserole. It means dining Mad Men style at The Barrymore (nod to restaurateur, Billy Richardson).

One of the latest and swankiest outposts to land on Las Vegas soil is located just off The Strip at the freshly renovated Royal Resort Las Vegas. The 1,400 square-foot restaurant is a mix of fancy food options and opulent design.

What’s to be expected in the food department? Only the culinary musings of Chef Anthony Meidenbauer.  Anthony, who made magic at Holstein’s at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, dishes up lunch delights like Lobster Mac & Cheese and Seared Ahi, dinner classics gone fabulous like Veal Chops and 24-day aged Colorado Rack of Lamb.  And you know there’s no shortage of liquid love at The Barrymore. The vintage style bar procures fabulous “poisons” like an Old-Fashioned and a signature Barrymore cocktail (Barrymore 75, anyone). And one of the best things about The Barrymore is they serve breakfast. So if you’re not in the mood for buffet-style breakfast, you can nosh of Maine Benedict (yes that means lobster), Pork Belly Benedict and Brioche French Toast. Wash these tasty eats down with an old-school Bloody Mary or a Kir Royale. Feeling mighty Esquire?

Now let’s talk interiors. You get that the vibe is definitely a step up from the HoJo, but you did you expect a retro-meets-contemporary vibe as soon as you through the door? Probably not. The 200-seat restaurant space features tufted velvet booths, flocked wallpaper, mirror-covered walls, herringbone wood flooring and rich molding on white walls. Did we mention those cozy corners that are perfect for your guy or girl of the hour? Make your way to the small bar for sip and talk advertising.

You can enjoy all the thrills of retro glamour by noon. The only thing you can do in here is light up, that’s so passé.
