When the Mirage opened its doors I can remember people being so excited about white tigers. They would stand next to the large windows and watch these huge cats sleep. Hundreds of people would just stand there waiting for something to happen. Every now and then a tiger would roll over or yawn and the crowd would let out a small cheer of excitement. It was great entertainment if you had been drinking at a black jack table. If you were a kid you’d lose interest. If you had a camera you would waste a roll of film on sleeping tigers.

It’s the middle of the summer season and you’re sitting at your desk thinking that you should be in Las Vegas. Right? I’m thinking the same thing.

The moment you decide you're going to Las Vegas during the warm weather months you have to be thinking about the pools. If you are not using the pool factor as part of your decision process there is something wrong with your decision making. The pool is where the Las Vegas excitement is at during the day. I'm not talking pool parties I'm just talking lounging by the cool water while having a cocktail or two.

Sometimes it seems like there are two kinds of people in this world: Those who love beer. And people we don’t really understand. Not too long ago, it was the second kind of people who were probably happier in Las Vegas. Beer lovers could enjoy cheap suds though nothing much more exotic than a Guinness here and there.

Don’t worry, you can still act like a college student on spring break on the Las Vegas strip but when it is time to imagine yourself as a more refined you, The Smith Center is where it happens. This epicenter for the arts adjacent to Downtown Las Vegas is world class in its combination of performances by resident companies, first-run touring attractions, lectures and internationally acclaimed performers in music, theater and dance.

It’s an icon on the Las Vegas strip. It seems like no matter where you are at you can see the giant tower that is the Stratosphere. I often think about the old hotel that was on the site, Bob Stupak’s Vegas World, it had some crusty carpets and I was always positive that they had the heaters turned on to high in order to make you forget about how bad everything seemed inside the casino. Those days are gone and now you can get quite a Las Vegas experience at the hotel on the north end of the Las Vegas strip.
