Daylife in Las Vegas

Is it Summer already? Well not quite, but pool season in Las Vegas is here, so it’s time to suit up and get out there. Some might say a pool is a pool, when you come down to it: Some blue water, rows of lounges and lot of sweaty bodies. And a pool party? Add alcohol and loud music. All the same, basically.

Not so. At least, not in Las Vegas, where every resort’s pool has different features and the adults-only pool parties fight hard—HARD—to grab your attention. The one you choose can make a huge difference on your experience, and while all are fun, the one that’s right for you takes some careful decision-making.

Wet Republic (MGM Grand): Maybe the ultimate in celebrity and DJ-drawing rager, Wet Republic is one big splash fest, with a long bar, large VIP cabana section, big wading area so you can dance wet, and yeah, a whole lot of sexy people. The cocktail pitchers available here are a relatively good deal (and save time waiting for a busy server to get to you).

Marquee Dayclub (Cosmopolitan): Talk about luxe. Three-storey high Bungalow Lofts (yes, you can stay here), infinity pools, a waterfall, shaded gaming area, and rows and rows of chaises and daybeds. Ready to party? Good, because Marquee brings in DJs like Avicii to make a hot afternoon even hotter.

Azure (Palazzo): For a slightly more mature experience (but still fun), check out the very private Azure, a collection of comfortable cabanas around a wading pool and several hot tubs. You’ll still get the hot dance DJ here, sexy servers and above average cocktails and food (by Wolfgang Puck, no less). What you won’t get is the sweaty drunk kids unintentionally sharing their sunscreen with you.

Encore Beach Club (Encore): Rumors continue to fly about just how many millions were spent building this custom party pool area, but whatever it cost, it was worth it. A winding pool with sexy shower pole platform islands is surrounded by three floors of four-star cabanas, an elegant gaming area, and on the average weekend more hot bodies than a Jay-Z video. Massive and gorgeous. If ‘go big or go home’ is your motto, you are in the right place.

Bare (Mirage): On the more intimate end of things, Bare is one of the few party pools that still allows ‘European’ (topless) bathing. It’s small enough that everyone can relax and enjoy themselves, and you’re likely to meet some interesting visitors and locals alike. In fact, it’s pretty hard not too. Cabanas here are more like playpens, and the see-thru hot tub is also an attraction.

A little extra thanks goes to E.C. Gladstone who is better at dancing with single women and drinking cocktails by the pool than I am for helping out with this piece.
