Dig This Las Vegas
No matter where you go, it seems like you’re faced with the same type of tourist activities. Don’t get us wrong, we’re always up for a beautiful helicopter ride or an enthralling ziplining experience. But sometimes, you just want something completely different. We’re always looking for new things to do in Las Vegas. Operating heaving machinery and digging up mounds of dirt next to The Strip was pretty much the last thing we had in mind, but we also had the best time doing it!
Dig This Las Vegas describes themselves as being a “Heavy Equipment Playground,” and while you’re there, you’re truly transported back to your childhood days in the sandbox. This attraction presents you with the opportunity to be completely in control of a bulldozer, an excavator or both. Although it seems strange and even a possible exaggeration that you’d have so much fun digging around in some dirt and driving construction equipment, it’s actually difficult to keep yourself from smiling so much at Dig This.
We recommend prying yourself away from the bars and nightclubs before heading over to the dig site. Each session begins with a safety orientation and a breathalyzer test. If you got too turnt at the club the night before and fail the breathalyzer test, your session is non-refundable.
After being fitted with safety gear and getting brushed up on safety information, your instructor will walk you out to the sandbox and assign you to a machine. This is where things get exciting. Do you remember the feeling you got when you climbed the ladder at the jungle gym when you were a kid? Remember how you let your imagination run rampant? Remember how adventurous you felt? Climbing into the cab of your machine will instantly take you back to that feeling. Once you get into the cab of the excavator or bulldozer, an instructor will help you understand each lever and button during an in-cab orientation. This short training session will give you the confidence you need to loosen up and have some fun.
You’re not expected to remember every single detail about these machines during the orientation sessions. Although you’ll be sitting in the machine by yourself, you’ll be equipped with a headset the entire time, so you’ll never be left without constant communication with your instructor and your group. If you forget how to operate a lever or button, you can ask for help. Most likely, your instructor will be able to tell that you forgot how to do something and they’ll let you know how to do it before you even have to ask.
Before you get to some of the tougher activities that require smooth operation, your digging adventures begin with some warm up exercises designed to help you get comfortable with your machine. Once your instructor feels that you’ve mastered the basic operation of the machine, you can move on to playing some fun games. Bulldozer games include building huge mounds, pushing gigantic tires and teeter-totter over a mega mound. Excavator games include digging gigantic trenches, stacking 2,000 pound tires and playing bucket basketball.
To celebrate all the laughs and to honor your achievement as a one-time heavy machine operator, you’ll also receive an official Certificate of Completion following your session. Although it might not seem like a big deal right now, after you forget which way is right a few times while you’re in your machine, you’ll come to realize how much you deserve that diploma. You’ll also be proud of yourself for having so much fun while being sober! How many of your friends can actually say that?
