How To Stay Cool In The Vegas Summer Sun
'Tis the season for triple-digit temperatures in the Vegas Valley, but staying cool has never been so easy. From dayclubs to water parks and ice bars, there is plenty reprieve from the heat this summer with the Galavantier-approved quick-hit list.
Las Vegas Ice Center
It’s like Christmas in July up in the Las Vegas Ice Center. Located 15 minutes off of the Las Vegas Strip straight down Flamingo Road, the Ice Center offers ice-skating and has the occasional hockey game. It’s a great place to enjoy the cooler side of Vegas. If you feel like you need a cocktail after all the skating, Brooksy’s Bar & Grill is essentially connected to the Ice Center and they have a plastic see-through partition that allows you to watch the rink while enjoying grub and a cold beer.
Cowabunga Bay Water Park
Having recently opened, Cowabunga Bay Water Park will help you keep cool while you have the time of your life. If you’re staying on the Strip, it’s about a 15 to 20 minute cab ride to the water park. This is a kid-friendly option for staying cool in the Vegas sun. Adrenaline junkies will want to make a beeline for the Zuma ZOOMa, which drops you 73 feet down via a water slide. If that’s not your thing, just chill on the Cowabunga River (lazy river). The park is priced at for $35.99 for all-day adult general admission and admission is $27.99 for kids under 48 inches.
Minus 5 Ice Bars
You’ll forget that it’s a scorching 115 degrees outside when you stop in for a cocktail at this bar. It’s a brisk minus 5 degrees (hence the name) and you’ll be outfitted with a faux fur parka and gloves to stay warm. You can find this chilly bar in two spots within Vegas including the Shoppes at Mandalay Place and inside the Monte Carlo Resort. Everything is made of ice in this bar including the seats and cocktail glasses. By the time you return to the Vegas streets to warm up, you’ll feel amazing, if only for a minute.
Rehab Pool Party
This adult-only activity is the place to be to cool off while enjoying a cocktail and DJ-spun beats. You can find the Rehab Pool Party at Paradise Pool at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino every Saturday and Sunday. Bonus: Rehab usually has a great lineup of guest performers and their Bikini Invitational vents are full of extra eye candy. Check the schedule here and head to this pool party for a wonderful afternoon at the pool.
32 Degrees Draft Bar
On the south side of Vegas, this lovely bar inside of M Resort Spa and Casino has 96 beers on tap. Get everything from Belgian ales to the local Sin City Amber. Plus, their hot wings and hot corned beef sandwich round out a perfect bar food menu. Don’t worry, as the beer will keep you cool between ‘hot’ bites.
