Laddies and Lassies of Las Vegas Get Ready for the Scottish Highland Games
It’s that time of year when men don plaid skirts and throw rocks across fields to prove who is the manliest. Ladies also kick it into high gear on the dance floor with the Celtic dancing competition.
We’re talking about the Highland Games held by The Las Vegas Celtic Society this Saturday and Sunday, April 12 -13. If you’re looking for something fun for the kiddos or hoping to test your own abilities in the authentic-style competition then head to Floyd Lamb Park in North Las Vegas.
On Saturday, the games run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. while Sunday the games are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kick off the games and watch beefy men in skirts throw weights, stones and tree trunks in the athletic competition, which also includes a children’s set. Why not enjoy some Irish whiskey as well; just head to the sampling booth for some of the finest from the homeland. Later in the day, if you’re still standing, you can also sample Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
Also enjoy a plethora of shopping for handmade jewelry and clothing as well as arts and crafts. Sample authentic cuisine while jamming to live music from Scottish/Irish bands like Wicked Tinkers, 1916, Sharon Lynn’s Celtic Crown, and many more.
For those that can’t make it to the Saturday and Sunday events don’t worry, you can still get your slainte on Friday evening from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Fremont Street where the party kicks off on the 1st Street Stage.
