MGM Resorts Breaks Ground On New Las Vegas Arena
It’s official; Vegas visitors will have a brand-spanking new concert, boxing and sports arena – the first new one in 30 years. MGM Resorts International broke ground recently on the 20,000-seat arena that will be located between New York-New York and Monte Carlo resorts. The arena is expected to be open for business in 2016.
While officials don’t have any national sports tenants signed yet, they are planning at least 100 events annually ranging from concerts to Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) events and other sporting events.
“We are committed to ensuring that Las Vegas retains its title as Entertainment Capital of the World for generations to come,” said Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International in an issued release. “The addition of this world-class arena, which will attract new events to the market and enable existing events to grow in scale, is an integral component in that strategy. No destination can deliver the level of energy and excitement found in Las Vegas, where every day has the vibe of a big event day.”
When the arena opens, visitors can expect to choose from a variety of luxury suites and private lodge boxes in addition to other ‘specially designed exclusive hospitality offerings.’
