No Uber? No Problem.
If you haven’t followed Uber’s (the innovative mobile ride-sharing app) struggle in Nevada very closely then let us help you get up to speed. The Las Vegas Strip offers up the potential for up to $400 million dollars in transportation revenue, and since Uber attempted to open up shop in October 2014 there has been an almost mafia-like turf war going on for who will be allowed to share in the spoils (legally of course). Uber’s trial period was short-lived, and a Nevada judge quickly gave court order for them to cease operations, arguing that they should be treated no differently than cab companies. This left locals and tourists with nothing but a glimmering hope that eventually Uber will secure victory with Nevada legislature before meeting again two years from now. The Senate just rejected the first Uber bill earlier this month which proposed a new legal framework for ridesharing technology companies, and a second bill will be decided on by as early as next week. It is our sincere hope that the Senate votes in favor of progress, but many are not betting their money on it.
We here at Galavantier encourage voting with your dollar. If you’ve ever been long-hauled after arriving at McCarran, or did not feel safe, or simply did not care for the condition and style of the vehicle, then there are other options at your disposal – not just traditional limousines either. There are plenty of other ways to ride in style during your Vegas stay while robed judges make the final (temporary) call. Whether you’d like to treat yourself to a luxury airport pick-up ride to your hotel to set the tone of your trip, book a booze cruise in a gigantic club-on-wheels party bus for your bachelor/bachelorette party, or simply would like to take a shopping expedition in a Rolls Royce with your best friends, don’t think for a second that you are limited to taxi cabs, or worse… Vegas public transportation.
Let us go over some of the extravagant options available from smallest number of passengers to largest. Most custom transportation enterprises charge by the hour or per transfer if you are just going from point A to point B on the strip. Generally, the larger the vehicle – the more it costs.
If you are looking to book a daytime shopping excursion and you have a group no larger than four then a luxury sedan is your best bet. The vehicle could range from a Lincoln Towncar to a Rolls Royce. Many balk at the idea of a luxury sedan before even peeking at the cost. But when you’ve saved all year or more for an epic Vegas vacation, nothing can kill the mood more than squeezing in a homely taxicab. If you are splitting the cost between a group of four and are just chartering pick-up and drop-off trips, then a lot of times the cost of the transfer will surprise you. Especially in the summer months where a trek on foot to the Fashion Show mall from the southernmost point of the Strip can be a death sentence when summer temperatures are at record highs. No one wants to be that guy at the pool with a farmers tan.
If you have a group that is larger than four, in the five to seven range, then you would do well to utilize a roomy Escalade or Denali if you still don’t want to shell out for a classic limo. Outside of that you’re looking at a six or 10 passenger stretch limo, which is the luxury vehicle most people are familiar with. These are the limos most gentleman’s clubs and male revues offer for free to patrons in exchange for drink ticket purchases at the door.
If your group size happens to be in the 12 to 13 person range a great option to consider is the luxury sprinter a.k.a. Mercedes Party Bus. This is also the perfect airport vehicle. Many Vegas visitors become frustrated when trying to book luxury transportation to their hotel when they arrive and find out that the vehicle cannot accommodate all of their luggage, and even more frustrated when a luggage vehicle costs an additional fee. The Mercedes Party bus is one exception – plenty of room for all passengers with luggage to mosey around and sip Champagne on the way to home base. All of the vehicles discussed thus far will serve daytime charters equally as well as nighttime charters around the clock.
Enter mega limos. Stretch Hummers and F650 truck limousines offer a great value for groups larger than 12 people. If you’ve never experienced a ride down the strip in one of these one-of-a kind limos then add it to your bucket list. They offer state-of-the-art sound systems and lighting, and plush wraparound seating. Revel in the gawk and stares as you arrive at any destination on the strip in full regalia.
Next on the totem pole are various party bus vehicles. Classic party buses generally house up to 20 passengers and come at a great value. Party Buses embody the word “fun” with most vehicles feature dance poles, LED lights, and Bluetooth music hookup. From there you have extra large party buses sometimes referred to as “International”. Finally, the final boss of luxury transportation options is The Vault. The Vault is a true representation of Vegas excess and style. The Vault is basically a luxury armored truck limousine that accommodates up to 30 passengers. Replete with laser lights, dance poles, flat screens, subwoofers, and even an onboard restroom this gargantuan vehicle will surely impress your friends.
Until Uber ups it’s lobbying game, and/or the strangle hold is loosened, these options will keep loyal Vegas visitors satisfied when it comes to luxury VIP transportation.
