Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat
When the Mirage opened its doors I can remember people being so excited about white tigers. They would stand next to the large windows and watch these huge cats sleep. Hundreds of people would just stand there waiting for something to happen. Every now and then a tiger would roll over or yawn and the crowd would let out a small cheer of excitement. It was great entertainment if you had been drinking at a black jack table. If you were a kid you’d lose interest. If you had a camera you would waste a roll of film on sleeping tigers. Yes, I just wrote a “roll of film” because it was that long ago. Have no fear, you can see other animals at the Mirage as well and they are in a much better habitat.
The Experience
The Secret Garden and Habitat is open daily and you can come pretty close to tigers, lions, leopards and dolphins. There is a self guided tour where you can take as many pictures as you want and spend all day waiting for the giant yawn or the wink of an eye from these large mammals. You can stand near the pool and watch the dolphins or you can spend an afternoon learning about each of the different species housed in this impressive collection. Private tours are available as well as interactive experiences that include painting with dolphins, yoga with dolphins and dolphin trainer for a day. The experiences are an added cost but give you behind the scenes access as well as cover the entrance fee to the exhibit.
Who Will Go
If you love animals you’ll stop into the Mirage for this as it is a worthwhile exhibit. If you are traveling with kids they’ll get plenty out of it and you’ll be surprised by just how much information your kids will get from this experience. Your kids learn a little something and you stay out of the casino for awhile. Win-win. If you practice yoga you should consider the idea of practicing while being watched by dolphins. This experience is very impressive and you'll soon realize that the dolphins are just as curious about you as you are of them.
