Spring Forward Fashion in Las Vegas

Oh, what to wear, what to wear? Or more importantly when planning a Vegas vacation - What to pack? With so little space, every fashion decision is crucial when trying to cram your closet into a TSA-approved amount of space. If you're planning a getaway to Sin City this Spring, here are our tips on what's going to make you look super trendy.

Shirtdresses

Shirt dresses

Maybe I love this look so much because the best time of the day is when you go home and take off your pants. With a shirtdress, you skip that step entirely and spend the whole day enjoying your pants-less, yet put together, look. Spring 2015 will be seeing a lot of shirtdress action and it's really easy to start early when you're in Las Vegas. The warm spring air was already here in January, so testing out these looks begins now. The shirtdress is usually best paired with a skinny belt of some sort and is amped up with lots of arm candy. No, I don't mean that hottie you're walking with, though he helps. I'm talking bangles, watches, bracelets of all sorts. Load 'em up and shake 'em around! Word of caution when dealing with shirtdresses: Test out the hem length with your high heels. Sometimes you can get a bit, erm - cheeky, if the shirtdress is a bit short. Regardless, flats always work with this look.

Yellow, Blue & White, or All White

Yellow

We've made it out of the dreariness of winter and can finally rock some truly great colors! Okay, maybe in winter we rebelled a bit and brought in some pastel pink to shake things up, but spring's colors just can't be beat for much-needed freshness. We're talking YELLOW. It was all over the runway for Spring Fashion Week and here in the desert, we're super familiar with yellow's awesome power. Try bringing more of it into your repertoire, from canary to mustard, and don't forget yellow's complimentary colors that rock with this look; purples, blues and even pinks.

blue white white

Also on the rise is the powerful duo of blue and white. You'll see this combo a lot in intricate patterns and simple color blocks on single items of clothing, so grab one to immediately feel more of a Mediterranean vibe and fresh approach to the new season. Plus, now is the time to rock the all white look. Just watch where you sit. And what you brush up against. And don't eat anything without a bib. Aww, who are we kidding? Just make sure you have a Tide stick.

Gingham & Floral Patterns

gingham

Immediately upon writing this title, I can't ignore Meryl Streep's voice in my head from The Devil Wears Prada: "Florals? For Spring? How revolutionary." Then I imagine I get fired from Runway Magazine. That's why floral takes a background position in my trend report here, because gingham is far outweighing its importance in Spring 2015 fashion over the obvious nature of florals.

If you've ever been confused by gingham and how it's different from plaid, just remember to think, "Does this remind me of a lumberjack?" It's probably plaid. "Does this remind me of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz?" It's probably gingham.

Here's an up-close look to show the difference:

With gingham it's easier to spot obvious square patterns in the negative space, whereas plaid is more of an overall series of lines and shading.

Gingham totally owns spring and summer fashion this year and you'll really see the evolution of it from season to season in the color it's comprised of. I'm digging these blues and especially the Tiffany blue versions of gingham for spring because they completely uphold the other recommendations in this article. Look how awesome it looks paired WITH floral, yellow, and that great statement necklace! Undeniable.

Kimono-Style Trench Coats

I remember the omni-present existence of dusters when I was in high school, and this feels like the higher fashion evolution of them. Kimono trenches come in all sorts of shapes, lengths and weights in the shopping world, and ultimately you should choose what works with your style and environment, but here in Vegas I'm recommending some flowy and ethereal light-weight trenches to combat that afternoon heat.

You'll know you've found the right one if it's got a belt (great tied in front or back), some pockets (for keeping all your secrets in), and a length anywhere from below your butt to the floor. Depends on how dramatic you want to be.

Crop Tops

Also known as "the bane of my belly's existence," crop tops are still running strong and not showing any signs of stopping now that this new-age 90s bohemian look has dug its feet in. I'm not poking fun, honestly, because I adore this look especially when paired with a high waisted skirt. I'm just jealous of all the women in the photo above because #OBVI. Join me in saying "screw it" this season and try some crop tops that show a little skin, before you feel comfortable enough to show more. You'll see a lot of crop tops with a higher neckline and almost racerback-like sleeveless styles, perfect for layering.

Knee-High Sandals

"Are you not entertained?!" by these glamorous gladiator kicks? Not only are these laced-up sandals totally in season, they're perfect for schlepping down the Vegas Strip. Flats with extra reinforcements? Count me in, as well as my other clumsy sistren. You'll find a lot of popularity with a Forever 21 version of these shoes (shown in the pic with the girl beautifully wondering who stole her bike and the girl who turned sharply right when she noticed a falafel sale, or whatever skinny people eat) but we all know how well those shoes are made. Forty percent synthetic material, 40 percent mass production, 10 percent hopes and dreams, and the final 10 percent is a delayed action substance that makes the wearer aggressively chuck the item into the dumpster upon breaking 5 weeks later. Let's opt for some quality footwear this season like the sandals Vogue curated here.

Now you're packed up and ready to look fabulous in the bright lights of Las Vegas! And don't forget to hit us up when you're ready to book your Vegas adventures!
