The Golden Nugget Downtown Las Vegas

What you don’t realize about the Golden Nugget is that it has changed so much over the years. It’s still the gem of Downtown Las Vegas but take a look around and you’ll ask yourself why you have not found the time to explore it more often. You probably have heard of the pool and the sharks but you might also want to know about the dining options and the modern rooms.

Sleep.

Shocking! The first time I walked into the Rush Tower rooms I was simply speechless to think that Downtown Las Vegas had finally been given a product that people would choose over the strip. The furnishings are modern, the design is sleek and what you’ve come to expect from the Golden Nugget has actually been upgraded. The Rush Tower has its own check in and valet area. It has a boutique hotel feel and if you didn't look at the hotel bill you wold think you were on the Las Vegas strip. The rates are better, the rooms are comparable and the food and gaming options are just as good as any in Las Vegas.

Eat.

Don’t be distracted by the huge fish tank, The Chart House is not about to do the bait and switch on you. The food is worth a visit. Vic and Anthony deliver a decent steak in a town with a lot of beef and pizza and a beer is never a bad idea at the Grotto.

Relax.

You’ve probably heard about being able to slide through a fish tank and past sharks at the pool. That’s fun but if you are looking for a bit more of a quiet, mature experience head upstairs to the Hideout (I actually only recently found out the real name) where you can order a cocktail and read a book while getting splashed on by the kids.

The draw of heading to Downtown Las Vegas has to be the revitalization of the entire area known as The Fremont East District. From Drag and Drink to Le Thai you'll find so many reasons to explore the hipster neighborhood that has been cultivated from what was once forgotten. Head to Downtown during First Friday and you get such a great feel for what real Las Vegas is all about. You still can get the cheap shrimp cocktails and low limit gaming tables but with so much to see and do in Downtown Las Vegas you'll be returning to the Golden Nugget for all the right reasons.
