The Insider: Get Spooked In Las Vegas This Halloween

When October rolls around, Las Vegas gets scary. The ghosts and ghouls come out to scare the pants off you at haunted attractions that pop up during the Halloween season. We have 11 spooky ways to get a good scare in Sin City.

Fright Dome: Adventuredome at Circus Circus is once again transformed into Fright Dome with the iconic horror film “Halloween” as its theme. Ranked among the top five scariest haunted attractions in the United States two years in a row, Fright Dome offers new haunted houses, freak shows, scare zones and much more to those who dare to enter. Two of the five haunted houses bring together popular scenes from the iconic horror movie “Halloween,” including the famed Haddonfield Memorial Hospital through the psychiatric ward where Michael Myers is being held and the front doorstep of the Myers home for a journey through the beginnings Michael’s terror. Fright Dome is open mainly on the weekends through Halloween.

Third Annual “OktoberFrightFest” at Fremont Street Experience: The spook-tacular nightly fun and fantasy kicks off Monday, Oct. 3, and continues through Halloween. Fremont Street Experience will once again transform itself into the ultimate adult playground with Oktoberfest and Halloween festivities, including Viva Vision light and sound shows themed to “Time Warp” and “Monster Mash,” outdoor bars featuring beer and drink specials and three free Halloween-themed stage shows.

Bonnie Screams: For most of the year, Bonnie Springs is a ranch with horseback riding and historic reenactments. Come Halloween, the ghosts of the past come back to haunt the ranch. Here you can find the Trail of Doom, where the Shepler family seeks their revenge for being kicked out of their home after slaughtering the mayor and his family; the Maze of Mayhem, where four clowns who were performing at the ranch in 1812 fell to their deaths and haunt the maze; Wicked Wax Museum, haunted by Dr. Sprinkle, who was locked in the museum by pranksters in 1848 on Halloween and suffocated, still gives tours; and Slaughter of the Swines, where Farmer Tom and his brother Mark avenge the death of Tom’s wife in this slaughterhouse.

The Freakling Brothers: Three haunted spots come together in one at the Freakling Brothers, which includes Castle Vampyre, where evil lurks and you feel like you may never escape, and the Circus of Horrors with its terrifying collection of freaks. Then there’s the Gates of Hell, an R-rated attraction two years on the making. This sadistic experiment is sheer heart pounding, claustrophobic terror where you face the reality of your own violent death and meet the Prince of Darkness himself. The attraction is only open weekends until Oct. 14 when the ghoulish spot opens seven nights.

“Evil Dead The Musical:” If being scared isn’t in your wheelhouse, head to “Evil Dead The Musical” at the Onyx Theater for a campy rendition of the cult classic “Evil Dead” films from Sam Raimi. Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. Housewares-employee-turned-demon-killing-hero Ash and his trusty chainsaw must save the day. While the zombie blood flies and limbs fly off, the demons tell bad jokes, all set to music. For the best seats, request the splatter zone. See the performances Thursdays through Sundays at 8pm through Halloween.

Haunted Vegas Tours: Spend two hours discovering the 20-plus ghosts who haunt Las Vegas on the Haunted Vegas Tour. Does Bugsy Siegel still haunt the Flamingo? Where did rapper Tupac Shakur meet his demise? Did Elvis really never leave the building? The tour includes stops by these haunts and Fox Ridge Park in Henderson, where local legend says a little boy still roams the grounds. Tours head out nightly except Fridays at 9:30pm.

The Asylum & Hotel Fear — Chaos on Craig: This insane sanitarium may turn you into one of the patients as you walk through the first of two haunted houses dubbed one of the best in America by HauntWorld. Hotel Fear will strike terror in your veins when you meet the strange house guests within. The spooky spot is open Thursday through Sundays through Halloween.

Zombie Precinct Screamfest East: The downtown police precinct at Fremont Street East has turned into a toxic zone when Halloween approaches. Venture through the city morgue and the severed bodies within, the Jail of Souls with prisoners feasting on each other and you, the Execution Room of Doom with condemned becoming the executioners, the Cemetery of the Unknown with its unearthed bodies and the Psycho Ward, where autopsies have no effect on the wackos. You can find vendors, side show freaks, a horror film festival and a haunted Con Prison Bus in this chilling attraction. The Zombie Precinct is open Oct. 19-31.

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas During “After Dark:” The ghosts and ghouls take over Madame Tussauds Las Vegas during After Dark, an interactive haunted experience that takes over the celebrity wax museum Oct. 21-23 and Oct. 28-31 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Hearts will race and blood will curl as visitors see, hear and feel the mysteries and supernatural activity surrounding Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Those brave enough to experience the lock down during After Dark will be able to sense the paranormal activity that lurks in the attraction’s corridors.

Terror Town: Be prepared to be scared at Terror Town, an indoor haunted attraction designed to satisfy the most avid thrill seekers. As you walk through the maze of scary scenes you’ll come across a mix of steel props, animatronics and live actors that will make you cringe. From the first scene to the last you’ll be wondering which direction to look next. Terror Town is open Thursdays through Sundays through Oct. 20, then nightly until Halloween.

Springs Preserve Haunted Festival: This one is a bit less on the spooky side. The Springs Preserve’s Haunted Festival gives families an opportunity to tour a haunted house, pick up tricks and treats, play carnival games and listen to live entertainment during the festival Oct. 14-16, Oct. 21-23 and Oct. 28-31 from 5-9pm.
