Chowhound: Holsteins Shakes and Buns at The Cosmopolitan
There's a lot to like at Holsteins Shakes and Buns at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Holsteins is one of the surprisingly great (yes, great) casual dining spots on the Vegas Strip perfect for all types of casual meals. My last trip to Holsteins was with a large party where we ordered just about everything from the "tiny buns menu" along with a variety of beers from their seven page beer menu. Of course, I've alsoenjoyed a nice, relaxing lunch with a full sized burger, one time dining in the booth across from legendary boxer Mike Tyson! But one of my favorite things to do is stop by Holsteins just for desert after enjoying dinner elsewhere at The Cosmopolitan.
On the surface Holsteins looks like any other gourmet burger joint you may find in Vegas. However, this concept from Las Vegas restaurateurs Billy Richardson and Chef Anthony Meidenbauer of Block 16 Hospitality was tailor-made for The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas with an emphasis on fresh, natural and organic ingredients. These fresh ingredients allow Holsteins to bring better burgers to Las Vegas with a bit of a homegrown attitude to The Strip. The menu features specialty burgers, takes on traditional American snacks and appetizers, as well as a wide variety of shakes. On top of this, Holsteins has one of the largest beer menus in Las Vegas.
If you're just in the mood for a snack, you can sample a wide variety of foods from meatball grinders to the Asian inspired, crispy pork belly buns on the "Tiny Buns" section of the menu. You can step up the size of your snack on the "Nosh" section of the menu from the Philly Cheez Steak Spring Rolls to the Philly Cheez Steak Sliders. If you're in the mood for a full meal there is a wide variety of burgers available. The Hen House (add cheese) is the perfect cure if you've had too much to drink.
Holsteins can fill any degree of hunger and that continues to your sweet tooth. There aren't many places on The Strip where you can get a quick dessert, let alone a boozy dessert, and Holsteins fills both of those desires. Their wide variety of shakes are excellent with or without booze. The Cereal Bowl is my favorite shake to have without booze, while Drunken Monkey if perfect with and without the Frangelico added.
Holsteins is easily one of the best casual restaurants on the Las Vegas strip and the good news is that the company behind Holsteins, Block 16, has opened Public House at The Venetian Las Vegas and The Barrymore at Royal House on The Strip. They're also the company behind LBS Burger at Red Rock Las Vegas, which is one of my favorite off The Strip burgers in Vegas.
