Re-Visit Downtown Las Vegas
This weekend the Life is Beautiful Festival is coming to Downtown Las Vegas so you might need a little refresher course on where to stay and what to do while you are in and around Fremont Street. The Fremont East district is exploding with so much activity that you’ll soon be choosing Downtown Las Vegas as a destination but for now you just want to know what’s up, right?
I got it.
Where to stay in Downtown Las Vegas
Yes, you could stay at the Golden Nugget because that has been the gem of Downtown Las Vegas for so long but you really have to consider moving on. The Rush Tower rooms are impressive and the entire property is very nice, but they charge more than their neighbors and the hotel scene has really changed in the last year. The D Hotel has gone through a major renovation and the bars are fun, the casino is high energy and the rooms look very nice with modern decor and a bit of a nod to the old mixed in with the new. The Golden Gate Hotel is not only the oldest hotel in Las Vegas but it now looks spectacular. Yes, I just said that about a Downtown Las Vegas hotel. Get a room in the new tower and you’ll be shocked at how nice it is and when you see how much it will cost you you’ll never return to the strip again. Both hotels are right on Fremont street and both have room rates that are shockingly low.
Where to Eat in Downtown Las Vegas
The cheap buffets and fried Twinkies are still an option but there is no need to have a bad meal anymore. I’m always happy with Le Thai right on Fremont but I recently walked into La Cocina and I was blown away by how much I liked it. After asking around people started giving me their favorite dishes and I’m here to tell you that you might have to find it when you get to downtown Las Vegas. If you need a good happy hour try the Triple 7 Brewery at Main Street Casino and the hot dogs at American Coney Island dog are a must try as well. Breakfast will compel you to go in to Dupar’s and yes you will have to check your cholesterol after a short stack of pancakes. So good but you know there has to be a stick of butter in those things.
Where will you continue the party?
While you are on Fremont Street you’ll soon realize that there is no shortage of places to have a drink and meet new friends. Head in to The D and you’ll find The Long Bar in the casino that seems to have an energy that comes from the large screen televisions or the casino or the amount of people saving money on rooms and having a good time. Walk up to Fremont East and walk into The Vanguard Lounge. It’s sleek and has a cocktail list that deserves your attention. After that look around for the Downtown Cocktail Room and you will be pleasantly surprised by a space that begs you to stick around and discover a new downtown Las Vegas.
Whatever you do you have to walk around Downtown Las Vegas and discover for yourself all the good changes that are happening in the area.
