The Show You Need To See Now Before It’s Too Late
If you don’t make it to LIMELIGHT at The Plaza Hotel & Casino by November 1, you will be missing out on one of the best shows ever creatively consummated. Making blanket statements like this isn’t often a good idea but, seriously, this is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in oh-so-many realms.
It all begins with a black and white video of a Charlie Chaplin-style film and before you know it the cast emerges from the screen into vibrant colors except for Betty Boop, who never quite emerges from the black and white world. However, the makeup on Boop, who is played by Felice Garcia of Million Dollar Quartet, is phenomenal, as she remains black and white only holding a vibrant red rose to offset her look.
Immediately after stepping onto the stage, the cast of Danial Brown as Charlie Chaplin and six gorgeous dancers burst into an acrobatic dance number using balance beams. They even take the beams into the audience to get up-close-and-personal with the crowd, making many members grateful for the interaction with the gorgeous ladies.
The show is not one to sit quietly as they encourage all the clapping, hooting and hollering that you can muster to get everyone pumped up. A few lucky souls will even be served a complimentary shot of whiskey, and yes – it is real quality whiskey and not just a prop.
The show progresses in a series of sultry burlesque-style performances that tantalize the eyes and keep your toes tapping. Each new song that comes on is met with a realization that you’re being taken back in time, yet it is still very much the modern era. The blending of the times is epitomized when the dark stage is lit up for one of the final performances that emulates Chaplin’s “The Dictator” for a militaristic rendition of his famous speech, made gritty and sexy by Brown and his entourage.
The big finale is “Bang Bang” from will.i.am and it is an explosive performance that highlights the vibrant energy displayed through every minute of this hour and a half long show. With 15 vignettes and a fast-paced, energetic show that can’t be fully capitalized in words, you have to see it to understand the amazing capacity of creative minds meets talented performers. This amazing show won't last long as it is only available through November 1 on a limited-engagement showing, so what are you waiting for, get your tickets while they're hot.
